Fiberglass grating is a lightweight, high-strength, corrosion-resistant new building material. Its cuttings include straight cutting, curved cutting, grinding, and drilling. The fiberglass grating can be cut into different shapes: round, square, sector, hollow round hole, and square hole, to fit the different installation positions. Here’s a general guide on how to do it safely and effectively.
Choose the Right Cutting Tools
- Jigsaw: For more intricate cuts, use a jigsaw with a fine-toothed blade (e.g., a carbide-tipped blade).
- Circular Saw: A circular saw with a diamond-tipped blade works well for straight cuts.
- Cutting Wheel: A high-speed cutting wheel or grinder can also be used, but be cautious of flying debris.
Cutting preparation
- Safety Gear: Always wear protective gear like safety goggles, a dust mask, gloves, and long sleeves to avoid inhaling fiberglass dust or getting it on your skin.
- Mark Your Cuts: Measure and mark the grating where you want to cut. Use a pencil or chalk and a straight edge to make straight cuts.
- Secure the Grating: Clamp the grating securely to a workbench to prevent movement during cutting.
Choose a well-ventilated, bright place for cutting. Check that all power tools are in good condition before cutting.
Cutting Method
Begin cutting slowly and steadily. Keep the tool at a steady speed and apply light pressure to avoid damaging the grating.
- Straight cut: The FRP grilles can be cut in the field with a ceramic disc, emery disc cutter, or even a regular hacksaw blade.
- Curve cutting: Grid opening, arc, and other arc cutting can be used to install a metal cutting blade, electric saw, or hacksaw, for marking line cutting.
- Polish: Use a hand Angle grinder, grinder, ordinary file, and sandpaper for sanding.
- Borehole: The holes above 12mm can be drilled by an ordinary drill machine, twist drilling, and a hand-carried electric hole processing machine, or a general electric hand drill can drill the small holes.
Cutting, Finishing, and Cleaning
After cutting, it is recommended that the cut areas of the Fiberglass Grating be treated with a finishing spray. Sealants like a Polyurethane spray are standard when finishing raw edges. You may also need to sand the edges to smooth them out.
